Policy and Law
We had a few Policy and Law Department outings. They were fun. The events and pictures are captured here.

Policy and Law Department, 18 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Here's a picture of our department with our second half co-chair, Harry, our TA, Nadia, and Marie (who's was like a co-chair but not really). Katerina is missing because this photo was for her to accompany a gift for her wedding.

Final Department Dinner – 19 August 2003
We had a last goodbye with our second half co-chairs.

Nadia and Jon L., 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Nadia was our TA, Jon works at NASA.

Jean-Luc, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Jean-Luc is in the French Air Force.

Kurt and Marie, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Kurt works at Boeing in Houston, Marie is a jurist for ESA and was like a co-chair.

Harry and Rachel, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Harry is negotiating an international cold fusion treaty (oh, is that all?) and was our second half co-chair. Rachel is a lawyer in Denver and is NOT to be messed with. She litigates and will kick your ass.

Alain, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Alain works at ESA.

Amanda, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Amanda is in the US Air Force. Her husband is in the Air Force too and was at ISU. She outranks him.

Jean-Luc, Peter, and Me, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Peter is trying to develop a national space policy for South Africa.

Jo, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Jo is a lawyer in Australia. She doesn't always look this goofy.

Night Lights, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Cool lighting at dinner.

Kurt in Funky Lighting, 19 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. It was hard to time a digital camera and a strobing light.

SES Visit – 11 August 2003
We took a field trip to SES Global in Luxembourg. Fascinating for some, I bet, but not really that interesting to me since I lived in Luxembourg and worked at the site and had just been there in May to unsuccessfully negotiate a new contract. But hey, I got to talk directly to the CEO and I had not previously had that opportunity.

In the Board Room, 11 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Our presentation by SES was in the board room. It used to be an old stable, if I am not mistaken.

Courtyard Lunch, 11 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. SES treated us to lunch and discussions in the courtyard. Note, it was the same lunch I had for two weeks during the negotiations.

More Lunch Discussions, 11 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Peter et al discussing things in the courtyard. This looks like a chat with the lawyers.

Alain, Xell, and Rafael in the Foreground, 11 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. Note the CEO of SES Global is chatting in the background.

Group Shot, 11 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. The Policy and Law, and Business and Management departments posing for a picture at SES.

Antenna Farm, 11 August 2003. Posted 24 September 2003. On the antenna farm outside the tech building. Its grown a lot since my first days here.

Parliament – 30 July
Photos from the visit to Parliament on July 30th. They only meet here four days a month. The rest of the time they are in Brussels. Expensive.

White Trash Arrival, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. Well, we had to take picnic dinners that night. We were feeling very white trash.

Central Space - Parliament, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. There is a cool entrance to the buildings with a big courtyard.

Jungle, Parliament, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. Where is this rain forest supposed to represent.

Self Portrait, Parliament, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. Back when I had hair.

Press Room, Parliament, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. The room for the press seemed well removed from the actual parliament floor.

Meeting Pod, Parliament, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. I'm not sure if these are supposed to be functional or decorational. I like the way they look but they don't seem real necessary.

Pod, Top View, Parliament, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. Still can't figure these out.

Working in Parliament, Parliament, 30 July 2003. Posted 10 August 2003. We can imagine that sometimes people do work in this building.

Carnivores, 25 July 2003. Posted 28 July 2003. We ate a special Alsatian clay pot meal cooked overnight. It was … very meaty.

At the Table, 25 July 2003. Posted 28 July 2003. More around the table at dinner.

Philippe and Jon (not me), 25 July 2003. Posted 28 July 2003. Philippe (our Professor) and Jon around the dinner table.
