So, as you've undoubtably read, I have chosen to present two porfolios
of my photographs to reward contributors to the California AIDS Ride 7
on my behalf. Included in this portfolio are images taken from three National
Parks, a National Forest, and one from Switzerland. I hope you enjoy both
this portfolio, and it's brother, "Portfolio
B."
Badlands National Park, August 1996
Driving cross-country with my best friend, we stopped off at a number
of sites between my starting point in Los Angeles and our destination,
Champaign/Urbana, Illinois. Here you see our shadows as we overlook one
of the carved gorges that make up the Badlands.
Wengen, Switzerland, June 1997
Hiking above Lauterbrunen, Switzerland, absorbing the beauty of the
Swiss Alps. Down in the valley below is Lauterbrunen, a small town about
1 hour from Interlokken. I had numerous images from this amazing area,
which is famous for its ski runs in the winter, and it's lush vegetation
and waterfalls in the summer.
Sequoia National Park, July 1991
Travelling out West with my family in the summer of 1991, we stopped
off in Sequoia for some hiking, and I captured this very black and white
shot, accentuating the size and power of the giants.
Grand Canyon National Park, March 1997
My last Spring Break -- a seven day, six night backpacking trip through
a small portion of the Grand Canyon. We chalked up about 50 miles in those
seven days, travelling down the Royal Arch Route, a bit down Granite Gorge,
and then back out on the South Bass Trail. Definitely the toughest backpacking
I've ever done, but also the most rewarding. I can't quite pin down exactly
where on the trail this shot was taken, but it definitely gives a feel
for the stoic nature of the canyon walls.
Angeles National Forest, April 1999
A "recent" shot, taken on a climbing trip to Williamson Rock, in the
Angeles National Forest. This area is pretty cool, in fact it's hard to
believe it's only an hour from downtown L.A.! Anyhow, the ridges and their
rock-rooted evergreens are backed by an ethereal mist which often fills
the valleys here. Plus the climbing here is great, when it's not too crowded.
